Études Private Violin Lessons
We offer private violin lessons for students ages 3.5 and up.
Our teaching method starts with a basis in the Suzuki Method. However, because we know the importance of and strongly value early note reading and theory development, our teachers incorporate supplemental curriculums as well. We begin teaching every student violin with open strings, which is G, D, A and E. As students get older, we will choose a curriculum and songs based on each individual’s needs.
Purchasing or Renting an Instrument:
Students are asked to secure an instrument before the first lesson. We recommend purchasing or renting your violin from either Foxes Music Company (located at 416 S Washington St, Falls Church, VA 22046), or The Potter Violin Company (located at 4706 Highland Ave, Bethesda, MD 20814). Both companies will walk you through choosing your instrument and evaluating you or your child for the proper-sized violin.
Children ages 3.5 – 6 years old will need substantial parental involvement while beginning to learn violin. Parents are asked to attend each lesson to help learn how to care for the instrument properly, tune the instrument for their child, and assist them in each practice session.
What to Expect with Beginning Violin Lessons:
In the first lessons, students will learn how to properly hold a violin. They will also learn how to take care for the instrument, although parents may need to help young children with this task. Students may begin just by plucking the strings. Eventually, the teacher will assist with holding the bow correctly hand over hand. Students learn how to create each note by placing left hand fingers on each string.
